Hey, Crew…
I am not neglecting my duties as Captain, but wow — Fourteen is going to need some work. I mean, some work. So, in the meantime, I want to share with you a fun “behind the scenes” sit-down with Dead Robots Society’s Justin Macumber…
This is the unplugged Tee Morris where we talk about podcasting, writing schedules, friendships forged, and juggling loves and passions while facing real life. Enjoy, Crew.
Stay the course — Chapter Fourteen is underway…

The Über-Nemesis is challenged…
Posted by admin on Jun 04 2008 | 2 Comments »
Being stranded in Salisbury, MD got me a touch concerned as I wanted to post this challenge for Thursday morning. Then it dawned on me that, yes, I can make this post happen…just without the snarky introduction from me. *LOL*
So, now that you know the backstory, have a listen to the challenge issued…
Interlude: Birth of the Über-Nemesis!

The Defiant brings cannons to bear…
With P.G. Holyfield, Nobilis, and Chris Lester (and MOREVI’s own Christiana Ellis coming in late for the rant) in attendance, I recorded for The Survival Guide to Writing Fantasy a Whiskey Tango Foxtrot moment. This (far too silly to be taken seriously) rant was inspired by the First Queen of Morevi herself. Recorded in front of a studio audience, this was my rebuttal against the “new trend” amongst podcast fiction authors.
Thursday morning, you will hear the answer to my challenge.
Let the mayhem commence!
A Pirate’s Lament
Posted by admin on Jun 02 2008 | Comment now »
Hi again, Crew…
Justin Vactor passed this heartfelt story on Twitter and it made me realize that a dream I once had — working for Disney — carries a heavy price, far heavier than the Aztec Gold the Black Pearl once plundered.
Pirate’s Booty: The Story of a Jack Sparrow Impersonator (featured on LAMag.com)
I do understand you have to run a business and maintain a level of professionalism. I’ve seen, on a much smaller scale, “character control” like this and I would agree that some actors are irresponsible enough that a sharp eye must be kept on them. There is this belief that “The Art” is the same thing as a free pass to go beyond the boundaries of good taste. In my years as an actor I’ve seen individuals (that I would hesitate to describe as “professionals”) abuse the term “Artistic Expression”, attempting to use said term as a means of justifying behavior that makes them into a complete horse’s ass. For whatever reason, these idiots abandon all decorum; and afterward, blame it on the character they are portraying. “That wasn’t me,” they would say. “That was the character.”
No, you moron, that was you. The character isn’t the one cashing the check at the end of the day.
However, I would argue there are better ways of handling your talent. The actor paying Sparrow strikes me as one of the more responsible ilk of actors. No, he was hardly perfect and he admits to bending (and on occasion, breaking) the rules at Disneyland; but he kept his behavior well within the parameters of Disney. (And yes, the Disney rules are rules…not guidelines…) In this article, the joy of paying homage to Johnny Depp’s lovable pirate captain is evident; and it was also evident that when this actor was in the “Jack Sparrow” element, he was having a blast. He was having a blast within the confines of good taste. This actor was practicing sound judgment and a professional attitude. What was so wrong with that?
I have always been a fan of Disney, but not so much a fan of the Disney Corporation. I ask myself “Where is the line drawn?” Instead of passing judgment based on YouTube videos and a “guy-in-line” interview given at the POTC: At World’s End premiere (where the actor was well within the Disney parameters), Disney should have evaluated his performance on park property. Did he offend park attendees? Did he handle himself as a professional? Did this Jack Sparrow keep up the persona created in the films without crossing boundaries? If they had found this actor not performing in a professional manner, then Disney had every right to let him go. Sadly, Disney terminated this actor’s contract in a manner far from professional. For the actor to show up and see someone else in his job puts both actors in awkward positions. (I’ve seen this happen, on both sides and from the outside; and it is never pretty…) That was a dumb move on Disney’s part.
If Disney wants robots, then use the “automatronics” they got down better than anyone else. If you want interaction and real-time street play, then use actors…but remember the actors aren’t cattle, aren’t machines, aren’t property. They are people — real, breathing, warm, emotional, and passionate. Let them do their job and allow them room to live a dream.
To you, the-Jack Sparrow-that-once-was, the Defiant fires its starboard guns in salute of you.

Chapter Twelve Update and Current News…
Posted by admin on Jun 01 2008 | Comment now »
My beloved crew, thank you so much for hanging in there with me.
So what exactly IS happening with me? Okay, you knew that May would be a crazy month, but it also turned out to be the final push for not one but two titles, The Pitcher’s Pendant: A Billibub Baddings Mystery and Podcasting for Dummies, 2nd Edition. Amidst these deadlines was the New Media and SF/F event, Balticon 42. It has been weeks of classes, red lines, and networking…
…but the good news: The Pitcher’s Pendant is now in galleys. That’s right: Billi is back on 08.08.08! Take a look at this post, and you’ll get all the details from Baddings Investigations, Inc.
What else is happening from The Captain’s Quarters?
Author and Crew member J.C. Hutchins invited me to write in his universe, a universe far from Royal Guard, swashbuckling privateers, and dwarf detectives. This opportunity meant a lot to me as I am more than just a friend of J.C. Hutchins — I’m a fan. I still remember hearing the opening lines to 7th Son, Book One: Descent, and the trilogy was an amazing ride. Now, I found myself in his world. I wanted to make sure I didn’t let him down.
So, my Faithful Crew, here it is — the long-awaited, highly-anticipated, and seriously-hyped 7th Son: Obsidian. These are short stories set in the 7th Son universe around the time of the nationwide blackout. Along with my own short story, other authors appearing in this collection of original fiction will include:
The Obsidian Experience will also feature original contributions from these podcast personalities:
- Evo Terra
- Dan Klass
- Wichita Rutherford
- TD-0013
- George Hrab
- Soccergirl
- The cast of The Radio Adventures of Dr. Floyd
Also featured in this feed will be listener contributions of first person accounts from those trapped in the grips of panic, darkness, and survival. J.C. Hutchins is kicking off Obsidian this weekend with my short story, “Miles To Go Before I Sleep”.
Have a listen, and subscribe to 7th Son: Obsidian
“When the power fails, chaos reigns.”
Oh yeah…and Chapter Twelve? It’s underway. I’ll be talking to you very, very soon…like this week….

Remember when I said May was going to be insane? I didn’t think it would be this insane. Between the classes I’m teaching and Balticon 42 closing in fast, I’m finding it hard to sit down and produce. Chapter Twelve is underway, but far from done.
That doesn’t mean the Captain is neglecting his faithful crew! I’ll have a few more avatars coming out to people, and I’m nearing the end of edits for The Pitcher’s Pendant: A Billibub Baddings Mystery. With all this happening, I put together a little something to let you all know I’m thinking of you.
Enjoy this peek behind the scenes…

I Remember Joe: A 2008 Tribute
Posted by admin on Apr 01 2008 | Comment now »

Joe Murphy started off as a fan with the most prolific and honest opinions of MOREVI. All other book reviews that came after his were put up for comparison, and only Joe’s made me think about this story and in turn made Legacy of MOREVI a better book because of it. That was Joe’s first influence on my life.
Then we became friends.
On April 1, 2007, book reviewer, fellow Sci-Fi fan, and podcaster Joe Murphy lost a battle with Leiomyosarcoma, a very aggressive form of cancer. He was 34. Today marks the one year anniversary of his death, and on this date I wanted to take a moment to remember my friend, Joe.
I still miss you. And I remember…

Chapter Eight is still in production…

Sorry for the delay. I don’t want anyone to think the rug was pulled out from underneath me again. I’ve got quite a lot to do this week, but the good news is Chapter Eight is coming together very nicely. New guest voices, some fantastic performances, and all around swashbuckling goodness. The episodes may be longer than usual, but as you all are patient (for the most part…I’m getting some funny e-mails…) I didn’t think you all would mind. It’ll be worth the wait.
You all will be happy to know that one of the things that I’m postponing MOREVI for this week is JC Hutchins’ 7th Son: Obsidian. I’m putting final touches on a short story appearing in that collection. Don’t get me wrong — I love this podcast, but I’m a writer first and foremost and writers should be producing.
Wait a minute…I am producing. I’m producing this podcast. Darn it, I hate it when I trip over myself like that.
Also, I’m working on the edits for The Pitcher’s Pendant: A Billibub Baddings Mystery. Listen on Chapter Eight for an announcement concerning that new title from me. Coming very soon.
Until next week, stay the course….

So what happens when MOREVI goes on a hiatus?
Listeners decide to take the matter (and in my case, the lead character) into their own hands.
From Indiana Jim comes a really nice pick-me-up, featuring the voice talents of…
With friends like these, I’d better start producing episodes faster. Otherwise, my characters are going to get far too silly.
Chapter Seven will post on March 17. See you then!
A pirate captain checks in…

Hi, everyone!
I must say, this podcast never stops surprising me. I announce an unexpected and unscheduled halt in the production, and my Feedburner stats go UP. And then, from the voice of Askana Moldarin, Pip Ballantine sends me this little tidbit from the iTunes of New Zealand…
(click image for a larger view)
MOREVI is in the Top 15 Literature Podcasts! #13! That’s even better than its debut in the United States. So when you tell your friends and fellow fans of Fantasy about this podcast, tell them “It’s huge in New Zealand!”
So thank you, one and all, for your well wishes and concern. I’m also making a post to let you all know that I am beginning to see a break in the clouds. The fact I finished up several other paying projects on my desk and still had the drive and the time to put together a Survival Guide to Writing Fantasy means I’m almost out of the unexpected slump things here at Imagine That! Studios took. I asked for three weeks of your patience, I’m in the middle of Week Two, and I’m looking to start recording Chapter Seven either tomorrow or Friday. If I can get two chapters ready to go by the end of Week Three, I will be back with a vengeance on March 10.
Stay subscribed. Hold your course. Let people know…Rafe and Askana are almost clear of the storm…
