Stranger on a Train VI

I’m just going to say it: I’m a little scared. With All a Twitter done (or at least completed Author Review and moving towards the final layout) I am now trying to get some things off the To Do list. One of them has been my offering to Pip’s Kitchen. Yes, I started two nights ago my entry for Erotica ala Carte.com. I wasn’t sure how this was going to go, you know, but in between late Sunday night and lunch today, I’ve hammered out 5000 words.

5000 words. In three days. For erotica.

Yeah, that scares me.

If you are curious as to what my ingredients are, I’ve been told to write:

  • Government Agency
  • Alternate History
  • Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down

Erotica is hard. (Pardon the pun. Or should I say “If erotica is done right, then it’s hard.”) I never would question the skill of writers who do it on a consistent, regular basis. What scares me is how quickly this story is rolling out. I didn’t call that, especially with this idea (let alone, this genre); but it feels right and feels good. I just didn’t expect this kind of inspiration. Maybe it’s that “dark element” of erotica that scares me.

It’s not the challenge Pip put out there for me. That doesn’t scare me at all. I love a challenge.

Another challenge: Thickening my skin. Yesterday, someone on Twitter invited people to DM her concerning a panel at a Web 2.0 confernce here in DC. I answered her call. A few minutes later, she’s courting some self-proclaimed Social Media Expert (41 followers, following 12). I ask if the invite was void. Her response: “I’ll see if she says yes or no. If no, I’ll be in touch.”

Second string? Is that what I am? What part of “writer of All a Twitter” did this woman miss? What do I have to do to earn respect in this town?

First thing I have to do: Stand tough. They can have their conference this summer. Maybe I’ll go and bring with me my pictures from my first rugby game…in New Zealand.

UPDATE: I got an email early this morning concerning my Social Media Mainline Workshop in Wellington, NZ, being held in June. LIANZA posted it on their Events Calendar Monday morning. Three days later, it was sold out. I’m talking to them about a possible second Wellington event. Find out more at Imagine That! Studios.

Street Cred. I haz it.

I Remember Joe: 2009

joetribute

No matter how crazy the time or the schedules in life get, we make time to remember; and on April 1st, Jack and I are asking that you remember our fallen friend, Joe Murphy.

For those of you new to podcasting, you might have missed the audio wit and always-clever banter of my friend, Joe Murphy. He was (and still is) an amazing guy, his voice now part of the history of such podcasts, as Wingin’ It, Slice of SciFi, The Kick Ass Mystic Ninjas, and the award-winning The Case of the Singing Sword: A Billibub Baddings Mystery. He was taken from us too soon, and on April 1 we remember him.

Please, syndicate this podcast through your feeds, blog about Joe, tell a friend today about Joe Murphy, show your support in an avatar change, and let your subscribers know that you also remember Joe.

MicroBrewed: A Flashback to the First Meeting

mb-logo

With the update of WordPress, I wanted to test how things are now running. It then dawned on me how long it has been since I posted the “recently” rebooted MicroBrewed. I did promise that Phil and I would return with flashbacks and new episodes, and so I figured I would give the upgrade a shakedown with this, the very first meeting I ever had with Phil!

So how far back does this episode reach?

  • Michael R. Mennenga and Evo Terra were podcasting Wingin’ It!
  • Phil was a newlywed.
  • I was working with the MobilePre USB to record this meeting.
  • Snakes on a Plane was just coming out to the theatres…
  • Many of the people and shows mentioned in this cast are no longer on pod.
  • Twitter didn’t exist.

In this pilot episode (where we didn’t even have a name for our show), we reviewed beers from the Old Dominion Brewing Company. While the Old Dominion Pub has closed down, the brewery is still making some fantastic beers…

….and the Ashburn Pub still uses insanely-small glasses for their drinks.

An Interview on “Being Healthy for Busy People”

I had the pleasure of being Talli van Sunder’s first interview on a show that seems tailor-made for me: Being Healthy for Busy People. This is Talli’s platform to encourage healthy living and good eating habits for people on the go…and this is why it has taken me so long to post it. It’s been a go-go-go kind of weekend.

Still, the interview is worth the wait:

This week we are going to do something different with the show. A few weeks ago on Show #26, I talked about my journey to becoming healthier. That show got a really positive response, so I thought that it would be interesting to all of you if I interviewed a guest occasionally and discussed how they fit being healthy into their busy life.

In this show, I interviewed Tee Morris who is an author, podcaster and an extremely busy person. We discussed some of the challenges Tee faced on his journey to becoming healthier and how he met them.

When they asked me for a show graphic, I found this one and realized just how hard I had worked and how important it is for me to stay healthy. It’s all about determination and drive, and sticking to your plan. And no, it won’t be perfect. I have fallen out of my groove of late, but slowly getting back in there. So if you see me on Twitter and I mark a workout with the hashtag #onourfeet you will know that I’m inviting you all to join me.

Take care of yourselves, be good to your body…and punish it on a treadmill or a pool! :^)

Show #042: On Writing Demands and Real Life (with Scott Sigler)

Finally, after all these years, the F.D.O. joins me in the foxhole
for an interview…

About to wrap up his second Stank Tour, New York Times Bestselling Author and Failed Pimp, Scott Sigler, joins me on the Survival Guide to talk about something near and dear to us both: Facing the Challenges of Real Life. While the topic has been touched on once or twice here in Boot Camp, this time I take a look at dealing with the demands of delivery while coping with real life situations; and as many of the Junkies know, Scott had a rough-and-tumble 2008 as well. Here he comes — the Force of Nature that is Sigglerisimo.
